Antique Cars Workshop floor restoration

At an antique-car workshop at Gillette Corner in London, Stone Rescue restored a concrete floor that had been in use for about 35 years. The brief called for a reflective finish. According to the original project notes, grinding removed approximately 4–5 mm from the top surface on average before the concrete was progressively polished.

Grinding and polishing

The team used heavy-duty three-phase machinery and diamond abrasives for the mechanical stages. The project notes describe this part of the work as a process without chemical cleaners. Grinding prepared the worn concrete; successive polishing stages refined the surface towards the finish requested by the client.

The gallery documents the floor during treatment and afterwards. It shows machinery and workers in the workshop, followed by wider views of the polished surface reflecting overhead lights, with vintage cars parked inside. These views make the change in appearance easier to judge across the full workshop rather than in a close-up alone.

A sealer was applied after polishing to help protect the concrete from everyday workshop soiling, including oil. Its resistance to a particular chemical cannot be assumed without the product specification and maintenance instructions. For a similar floor, the amount of material that can safely be removed and the finish achievable must be assessed on site.
