50 years old Terrazzo Floor

Description:

This Old Town Hall project in North London records restoration of a roughly 50-year-old terrazzo floor. The original scope lists grinding and polishing, filling and repairing cracks, and finishing with a shine. The gallery shows the floor in hall and entrance areas, including the terrazzo pattern, border and visible wear.

Cracks should be assessed before they are filled, since a moving substrate can affect the durability of a surface repair. Grinding and polishing then refine the surrounding terrazzo so the repaired sections sit within a more consistent finish. Historic floors can retain natural colour variation and traces of earlier repairs; a photograph cannot promise a new-floor appearance in every part of a building. The site record does not include a measured slip test or exact polishing sequence. These views illustrate the Old Town Hall assignment and its visible result.
