Gym Hall Terrazzo Floor Restoration

This Poplar, London, gym-hall project involved grinding a terrazzo floor, filling cracks with epoxy resin, polishing to a shiny finish and applying a sealer described in the original scope as non-slip. The photographs show the blue and beige floor sections, giving context for the surface and its pattern.

Crack filling should follow an assessment of whether the substrate is stable; resin at the surface cannot remedy ongoing movement beneath the floor. Grinding and polishing can improve visible wear, while colour differences and earlier repairs may still be apparent. A sealer can alter the surface finish, but a ‘non-slip’ product label or photograph cannot establish the completed floor’s slip resistance. If a particular rating is required for gym use, the finished surface should be tested in its actual conditions. The gallery documents this project’s work and appearance.
