Location: The Other Palace, 12 Palace Street, London. This project involved a damaged marble worktop with cracks and chipped sections. The work recorded on the page included cutting and shaping the stone, repairing damaged areas and applying an anti-etch treatment after the surface work.

Repairing and finishing the marble

The photographs show the edge and face of the worktop, including the damaged stone before attention and close-ups of the repair process. Shaping the marble to the required dimensions and repairing chips or cracks are different stages: the cut stone must fit the intended space, while the repair needs to follow the appearance of the adjacent marble as closely as practical. Natural veining and existing wear can affect how visible a repair remains.

The original project notes also record an anti-etch treatment. The level of protection against acidic spills depends on the specific product, its application and ongoing care; no coating should be treated as a reason to leave wine or other acidic liquids on the worktop. The gallery documents the surface and finished appearance rather than a laboratory performance test.
