Wood floor restoration
Description:
This Feltham school sports-hall project records restoration of a wooden floor. The stated work involved sanding to address shoe marks and scratches, refinishing the surface and applying a heavy-duty varnish intended for a flexible or floating floor. The gallery shows equipment in use and the renewed timber across the hall.
Before sanding, the remaining wear layer and condition of boards need checking. Some deep marks cannot be removed without taking away too much timber, and loose boards or gaps may need separate repair. A floor designed to flex also needs a compatible coating and a maintenance plan suited to sports use. The original description mentioned a ‘safety finish’ but a photograph does not verify a measured slip rating. If a sports-floor standard is required, it must be assessed on the finished surface. This page documents the Feltham assignment.
